Alpha & Homegroups

At St Catherine's we believe that one of the best ways to grow our faith is to take part in small, home-based fellowship groups, where we can get to know each other better and learn more of our faith in Jesus at the same time.

The way into this system is through Alpha - our beginner's course in Christianity.

What is Alpha?

The Alpha Course consists of a series of talks addressing key issues relating to the Christian faith.

The talks take place over a series of evenings, the evenings typically involve:

  • A Light Supper.
  • A Talk.
  • Tea or Coffee.
  • An opportunity to discuss any points, ask questions and learn as a group.

Who is it for?

Alpha is for everyone, especially:

  • Those wanting to investigate Christianity
  • New Christians
  • Those wishing to be confirmed
  • Newcomers to the church
  • Those who want to brush up on the basics

When is it?

  • A new Alpha course will start soon. Please ask for details.

Youth Alpha

Alpha for Youth is designed so that teenagers can find about who Jesus really is and how Christianity and real life fit together. Alpha normally runs over 10 weeks or so and usually includes a weekend or a day away in the middle, and this course will start in the second week of September.

Each session looks at different issues to do with Christianity such as who Jesus is, what faith is all about, why people pray, and how God speaks to us today.

Anyone can come along to a course, no matter what you believe... as long as you are 12-18 years old. If you are interested in getting some of life’s big questions sorted, and want to work out what you believe, then come along.

What are Homegroups?

Homegroups are an informal way to make friends in the church, and to grow in our faith, and form a vital part of our life at St Catherine's. They are intended to be small groups where members of the church can:

-

share a simple meal

-

worship

-

study the Bible together

-

and have fun whilst doing all of this!

Normally homegroups run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as on Monday lunchtimes. All members of the church are encouraged to join one of the groups.

The weekly notice sheet carries details of the meetings, or contact the vicar for details.
